Norway Part Eight

The Changeover to a New Culture
The changeover from sea to land arrived soon after our Nordkapp excursion.

Disembarking in Kirkenes, we said farewell to a group with whom had had spent several pleasurable days. Lisa, a young woman from Italy, had joined us for several meals and drinks and generally became a small part of our family. Another young woman, Brandi, lived in Georgetown and was traveling with her parents from Las Vegas. We had some good conversations before the trip was over. (Doug may have been the magnet that drew this attention, but we all enjoyed each other.)

Most of the Finmarken passengers were from Norway, Germany and France. There were a few English-speaking people aboard, but not many Americans. However, I did meet a delightful couple from Annapolis. I was surprised when I learned their house had been designed by the architect son of my old boss, Chancellor Brit Kirwan of the University of Maryland!
